Remembering Ella

Last weekend was the Ella Armstrong Commemorative Seminar & Open Mat. There was great line up Saturday including our very own Jarrett Becks and Jessica Dobbs.  Each had an allotted time slot to share their techniques with different jiu jitsu practitioners. Many schools from No Limit to Gracie South to Gracie United all showed up in support for this event.  Here are some pictures from the event and from the AGF Jackson tournament a few weekends ago, too.11057337_10204495753895577_4969932693852348917_n

Gone but never forgotten.

“It’s being fearful, but willing to push through.

It’s being nervous, but willing to take a chance.

It’s being kind, but not weak.

It speaks boldly without using words.

It’s trusting when you’re unsure.

It’s believing that you can.

It’s not loud, it’s not arrogant, it’s not outwardly visible.

It’s a quiet strength that dwells within.

It’s courage, it’s bravery, it’s grit, It’s Ella.”

Starkville: National Night Out On Crime & Oktibbeha County Relay for Life

It’s been an eventful week here in Starkville. Students are back and moving in.  And this past Tuesday, we were at the Sportsplex promoting National Night Out Against Crime.  We passed out information on our classes that can help with bully prevention and give kids and adults a positive outlet.

Friday night we were back at the Sportsplex for Oktibbeha County Relay for Life.  Our team had a face painting booth and we had a great time coming together with the community and supporting such a great cause.  Altogether, $68,000+ was raised for the fight against cancer!

We will be out again with our tent and all for Shades of Starkville, Monday, August 17, 2015, on The Drill welcoming new students. Come by and say hello. Or send your friends. We would love to meet you!

We had a huge success at the Jackson BJJ Championships hosted at Millsaps College. No Limit Killer Bees took home overall team trophy as well as kids’ gi division, adult nogi division, and adult gi division! With over 60+ competitors representing No Limit from Gluckstadt, Flowood, Clinton, Vicksburg, Columbus, and Starkville, it’s no surprise!! You can find the scores here.

And special congratulations to Rachel and Christian Ybarra who were promoted to gray belt on the podium!
